Rail Yards-Inspired Artwork on View at South Broadway Cultural Center
Dozens of local artists wearing hard hats roamed through Albuquerque's historic Rail Yards last fall in search of inspiration for what now is the Artists Days at the Rail Yards art exhibition opening on Saturday, January 5 at the South Broadway Cultural Center gallery. An opening reception will be held that evening from 5 to 8.
The City of Albuquerque's Planning and Cultural Services departments coordinated the special creative opportunity to allow approved artists of various disciplines limited access to the Rail Yards campus for the purposes of finding inspiration for art within the industrial cathedral-style architecture of the late 1800s.
Artists were allowed to photograph, sketch, draw, paint, capture artistic video, or other media within certain interior and exterior spaces in and around the Rail Yards complex during four different time slots last September.
The work of 59 artists will be on view through January 26.
Currently, the City of Albuquerque is moving forward with remediation and the next phases of development of the locomotive machine shops and other components of the historic site.
