Named after the Hudson River Valley, which they each call home, this new contemporary jazz supergroup features legendary drummer and pianist, Jack DeJohnette; bassist, Larry Grenadier; keyboardist, John Medeski; and guitarist John Scofield. Teaming up to celebrate their musical histories and DeJohnette's 75th birthday year, they have collected a repertoire of Hudson Valley materials- which includes everything from Bob Dylan's "A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall", to Joni Mitchell's peace and love anthem, "Woodstock" to Jimi Hendrix's "Wait Until Tomorrow," and more. An update on the 1970's liaisons of jazz, rock and world music, it's "an elite jazz outfit collectively telling a compelling new story." - John Fordham, The Guardian. On tour to promote their June 2017 self-titled release, they will perform music from that release as well as original compositions inspired by the Hudson River Valley. NEA Jazz Master and Grammy award winner, Jack DeJohnette has established an unchallenged reputation as one of the greatest drummers in the history of jazz. In a career that spans five decades which includes extensive work as a band leader as well as  collaborations with some of the most iconic figures in modern jazz (John Coltrane, Charles Lloyd, Miles Davis, Keith Jarrett, Dave Holland, Herbie Hancock) he has developed a versatility that embraces everything from hard bop, R&B, world music, avant-garde, to just about every other style to emerge in the past half-century. Bassist Larry Grenadier first earned critical acclaim in the early ‘90s, playing in a trio led by pianist Brad Mehldau with whom he remained for more than a decade. He has also has worked extensively with guitarists John Scofield and Pat Metheny and has played with numerous jazz artists (Charles Lloyd, Brian Blade, Michael Brecker, Chris Potter, Danilo Perez). Grenadier is also a member of FLY, a recording and touring trio with drummer Jeff Ballard and tenor saxophonist Mark Turner. Equally comfortable behind a Steinway grand piano, Hammond organ or any number of vintage keyboards, John Medeski, best known as one third of the groundbreaking trio, Medeski Martin & Wood, is a highly sought after improviser and band leader. His projects range from work with John Zorn, The Word (Robert Randolph, North Mississippi Allstars), Phil Lesh, Don Was, John Scofield, Sean Lennon, Dirty Dozen Brass Band and many more. He released his first solo piano recording, A Different Time, in 2013 and is currently working on a new album with his band MadSkillet, as well as a documentary on Medeski Martin & Wood. A masterful improviser whose music generally falls somewhere between post-bop, funk edged jazz, and R & B, guitarist, John Scofield has had a major influence on jazz since the late 1970's.  He toured and recorded with Miles Davis in the mid 1980's and has since led his own groups in the international jazz scene, recording over 30 albums as a leader (many already classics). He has also collaborated with a Who's Who of the music world including everyone from Pat Metheny, Bill Frisell, Brad Mehldau and Medeski Martin and Wood, to Mavis Staples, Jim Hall, Herbie Hancock and others. He is currently an Adjunct Professor of Music at New York University.
